On the Hunt

Our church held its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday 3/29. Yes, it seems a bit early, doesn't it? Our gal wasn't particularly into hunting for the eggs. She wanted to swing on the swings. We let her do that for a few minutes, because I was perfectly happy to have her collect less than her fair share of candy-filled eggs.

Play Date

On Saturday, Mia and I went to visit Quincy and her mom. We met them through our China adoptee playgroup last summer. Quincy and Mia were born in the same province, just a week apart. I personally find it a little mind-boggling that they ended up living just 15 minutes apart, half a world away. We met Quincy's dad and her two golden retrievers. After taking a few minutes to get comfortable, Mia was quite captivated with the dogs, calling them "really big dogs" as her eyes widened. She even petted them. After some indoor playtime in Quincy's really cool bouncy house, we headed to the park. The girls tried out the swings and the teeter-totter before pausing for some private giggles.

Daddy's Home

One of the highlights of Mia's day is when Daddy comes home from work. Sometimes she hears his car before I do. They often share a snack in the kitchen before heading to the playroom.

The Morning Paper

While we cooked Mia's breakfast to order, she read the morning paper. OK, it was really one of those Scholastic newletters they give them at preschool. Mia's going to be really bummed out when she gets older and finds out there used to be morning newspapers, in the days before the Internet took over.

Dressing Up

The other girls in Mia's preschool class are total girlie girl types-- six of eight dressed up as princesses on Halloween. On the assumption that Mia will enter this stage soon, I purchased several used princess costumes at a consignment sale. At $2 or $3 apiece, I thought they were a bargain, but so far Mia isn't showing a strong affinity for princesses. (I kind of like that about her, to tell you the truth.) Sarah had to provide a lot of encouragement to get Mia to put this dress on.

Off to School

After days of rain, the weather forecast said it would be 70 degrees and sunny today. Mia was ready for it. Can this be the same little girl we met in the Civil Affairs office in Nanchang?

Pillow Talk

Mia's favorite demand lately is ,"Under covers and read!" Usually this happens when I get home from work in the evening. Mia wants to head up to the master bedroom for some snuggling & reading time. Not a bad way to wind down from a busy day. This morning I overhead Mia telling Sarah, "Under covers and read!" as they headed for the playroom. Looks like she got her wish.

Now, You Try It!

Sarah is a great observer of child development milestones. One day she noticed Mia was holding her crayon in a very un-toddler-like way, as if it were a pen.
Or maybe as if she was showing Sarah how it's done.
